Background Information - Job-specific


Training components and learning elements

UNOPS highly values interns’ contributions and realizes the importance of learning during an internship. The internship programme will include on the job training and exposure to various Human Resources management tools. The intern will have access to a large offering of online training on the comprehensive UNOPS intranet and opportunities to communicate with other country offices.

UNOPS encourages the intern to raise specific wishes regarding learning opportunities before and during the internship.

Terms and Conditions

UNOPS will provide the intern with the following:

  • The incumbent shall receive a monthly stipend designed to contribute to the cost of daily expenditures such as commuting and meals, if s/he is not receiving funding through an internship programme external to UNOPS, or from a specific institution.
  • If mission travel is undertaken, Daily Subsistence Allowance, in accordance with UN policy
  • The internship comes with no expectations of future employment with UNOPS as a direct result of the internship

Functional Responsibilities


The candidate will work under the direct supervision of HR Associate and overall guidance of the HR Project Manager and will be responsible to perform the following duties:

  • Assist in reviewing of incoming requests and documents relating to recruitment, contract extensions/shortenings, transfers and separation of ICAs, consultants.
  • Support to follow-up with relevant personnel of all recruitment-related documentation for proper contract management including mandatory certificates and other types of HR documents in compliance with AIs and audit requirements
  • Register details as appropriate in the One UNOPS-ERP System (OU) and in the Staffing Table
  • Assist in verifying the accuracy of travel claims for processing by Finance.
  • Assist in the e-filing and ensure that documents and supporting files are accurate, complete and properly filed for audit purposes in close coordination with HR team
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned

Education/Experience/Language requirements


Academic qualifications

Should be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.


Computer Literacy

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Knowledge of ERP systems is an asset

Language Skills

Fluency in at least one UN official language required. Knowledge of second UN official language desirable.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Interns are responsible for their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, and necessary visa arrangements.
