General Information

Background

The Civil Society Team (CST), Office of the Director (OD), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria, is opening two internship positions that will start in January 2019. The duration of the internships are for an initial period of 4 months with the opportunity of an extension up to a maximum of 6 moths subject to the needs of the department and the availability of the candidates.

The internships are UNPAID and full-time (40 hours a week) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct research in relevant areas
• Assist in the preparation of the Civil Society Project activities and events
• Attend and take notes at events/meetings/conferences
• Contribute to Programme implementation activities
• Perform other tasks as necessary.

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION) • Be computer literate in standard software applications • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

求められる言語能力

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required for the internships. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
