Background

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

This internship is located within UN-Habitat Programme Office in Kosovo which is currently implementing the Inclusive Development Programme aiming to provide a strategic, comprehensive package of support to build municipal planning and management capacities, strengthen the social contract and social cohesion, and enhance coordination within a framework of inter-municipal cooperation and multi-level governance with a view to foster inclusive development and good governance in northern Kosovo; as well as several initiatives in support of enhanced public space development and management in selected municipalities.

The UN-Habitat - Inclusive City Planning and Development internship is for 3 months with a possibility for extension depending on the needs of the Organization.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the Supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor, the intern will:
- Provide support for data collection, analysis and mapping.
- Assist in strengthening the skills and experience of counterparts, institution building of municipal planning units, also through training delivery.
- Promote dialogue among local authorities and civil society and other key stakeholders, and support relevant events, workshops and focus groups, incl. reporting, on various topics such as
participatory planning, peace-building, enhanced decentralization, public space, urban safety, urban revitalization, etc.
- Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications.
- Write news, press release and /or editorials.
- Write, translate and/or update web and social networks content, and contribute to feedback mechanisms.
- Contribute to knowledge-management, communication and outreach activities of the programme.
- Undertake tasks in partner Municipalities of the programme, as required.
- Provide logistical and administrative support and perform any other functions and tasks which may be required by the nature of the programme’s activities.

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

求められる学歴

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred Areas of Studies:
Architecture, Urban Planning, Social Sciences or Public Information and Communication.

求められる言語能力

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Albanian, Serbian and Macedonian would be an additional asset.
