The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote regional cooperation for inclusive economic and social development in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP's role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership, through its analytical, normative and technical cooperation, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asian and Pacific region.
The Information Management, Communication and Technology Section internship is located in the Information Management, Communication and Technology Section (IMCTS) within the Division of Administration and is for a period of two to six months depending on the needs of the division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member within IMCTS in the Division of Administration.
We are looking for 4 different profiles as indicated below and responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and interests; the intern’s assigned one of following profile during the internship period.
Profile 1: ICT Project Management
This profile will provide opportunities to support ICT Project activities such as planning, designing, risk/issue registration, change management, communication strategy, project documentation, maintaining deliverables, and quality control. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Support project activities in all project phases (scope, costs, time);
* Maintain project documents;
* Maintain risks and issues register;
* Follow-up for tasks;
* Coordinate meetings; and
* Input project activity data.
Profile 2: ICT Hands-on Support
This profile will provide opportunities to support LAN/WAN/VoIP/Desktop Software/Cloud Services. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Provide support for LAN, WAN, computer information systems and applications;
* Install computer application systems software and hardware;
* Perform troubleshooting for various applications;
* Assistance during conferences;
* Compiling statistics; and
* Administrative support.
Profile 3: ICT Service Management
This profile will provide opportunities to support ICT Service Management activities. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Maintain Service Catalogue, Rate Card, and IT Tool Kit;
* Establish Standard Operating Procedure (SOP);
* Draft new service definition and recommend improvement of existing services; and
* Process work orders.
Profile 4: Business Intelligence
This profile will provide opportunities to support Business Intelligence and reporting related activities. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Collect necessary data;
* Analyze (SAP, MS Project Data, etc) data and find trends and noteworthy issues; and
* Visualize the analyzed data to support management decision making.
The candidates are recommended to show abilities or experiences in IT related skills/activities, and interests on profile listed above.
* Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills.
* Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.
* Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be ‘clients’ and seeks to see things from clients’s point of view.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
* Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
* Be computer literate in standard software applications;
* Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
* Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
